"From the Ground up..."
Here at Cincy Premier OLine Academy our philosophy is to make the art of playing OLine as simplistic as possible, by breaking it down in component based practices. Everything we do and preach is from the ground up. Whiffs, Fall-Offs, and even missed blocks are mostly attributed to improper footwork. It begins initially with the stance, many lineman underestimate the importance of a sound base, whether their feet are to narrow/wide, their weight is improperly balanced, or without realizing are tipping off their initial movement. After correction of the stance, our focus shifts to the first three steps. In those first three steps we highlight focus on the first step being directional, or as we say our course setter, followed by our second (power) step where we deliver our initial blow in conjunction with our punch, concluding with our third (drive) step where we work to create that dent in the line of scrimmage. Throughout the course of the block we relate our feet to suction-cups, meaning our whole foot must maintain contact when on the ground. We believe this best helps the athlete maintain their balance and their position of power throughout the duration of the block. When the feet are right we can begin to fix everything else, but when the feet are wrong no matter how perfect we make the upper body the results will never be to the level we expect from our Lineman.
